Ranma Saotome is a, well, martial artist. Having been somewhat forced to train in the way of the Anything Goes School of Martial Arts since he was a small boy. Mainly because y'know, his dad Genma kind of dragged him off from home to train. Promising to turn Ranma into a man amongst men! Thus he and his old man went on a training trip alllll over the damn place, meeting all kinds of people, and likely pissing off more then half of them in some shape or form. Highly in part because Genma gets in trouble WAY too easily.

Eventually, when he was sixteen, and his training trip was near it's end, they went to the cursed training ground in China known as Jusenkyo. Being as the pair didn't know about the whole cursed part, when Ranma managed to knock his father off one of the bamboo poles jutting out from the springs themselves, imagine his surprise when a panda jumped out and attacked him. Safe to say, such a state of surprise leaves one rather open to attack, thus he was knocked into a spring as well, one known as Nyannichuan or the Spring of Drowned Girl. Thusly, from that time on, when hit with cold water, his appearance changes to that of a shorter, red haired female version of himself. Thankfully, hot water can change him back to his normal studly self!

After the training trip came to it's end, they managed to get back to Japan, and moved in to the Tendo Dojo, which Ranma apparently had an unwilling fiancee waiting for him. Ranma was so not down with that, and it was quickly was made apparent he had various girl problems. Almost entirely stemming from various things Genma had done. Well, most of them, one was his fault, but hey, what could he do. So he apparently had three fiancees... But he pretty much ignored that whole fact, trying to go about things as normally as possible. Which was rather hard to be honest, but he managed to survive.

Eventually when he went on another training trip with his old man a few months after staying there, he had to enter into a martial arts tournament for prize money, since his old man used up all their travel money somehow. During this tournament he ended up being scouted by a talent agent, which he at first shrugged off, taking his card and moving along. Eventually, one day out of boredom he decided to call the agent up, to see why he even gave him the card. When he heard him talk about being in a martial arts movie, Ranma's interest quickly picked up, and he decided to give it a try. After all, if the word Martial Arts was in it, he wouldn't turn it down.

The agent gave him a temporary apartment in Tokyo, which he has since moved out of into a larger one, but thusly he moved out from the Tendo Dojo... Much to the protest of some of those there, but he did anyway. That was roughly two years ago, and since then he had been a supporting role in a movie, and co-starred in another as one of the lead roles. He is also currently filming another movie, this one that he is the lead role in. Also during those two years, he had once accidently got stuck infront of a place holding auditions for seiyuu during a rain storm, taking to the inside for cover, he ended up unintentionally auditioning for a role, and much to his dismay and surprise ended up landing a role in the series it was an audition for. Thusly because of this, he's had a rather risky business of juggling two careers at once. His female form using the alias Ranko for credits, so as to avoid exposing himself as being her.

Also, despite the risk it poses, he has no qualms with using his female form to his advantage. For things such as getting away from fans and sweet talking someone out of something he needs.
